Jam or collaborative playlist on Spotify: which one to use with friends?

One group wants to choose the music for their trip, but each person sends suggestions at a different time. At another meeting, everyone is already together and wants to decide what will play next. These are different situations where using Jam or a collaborative playlist on Spotify is a good place to use.
To organize the selection before the meeting, start with a playlist. To divide the choice during playback, consider a jam session. First, check the budget and make sure the participants will be in the same place.

Collaborative playlist: prepare your selection in advance.
In the mobile app, use To create, choice Playlist Give the list a name. Add some tracks to indicate the desired style. Playlist creation guide It details this beginning.
In the playlist you created, open the three-dot menu and choose Invite collaborators. Send the invitation to the people who will be able to edit. The generated link is valid for seven days.
Contributors can add, remove, and change the order of tracks. Therefore, send this invitation to those who should participate in the selection, not just those who want to listen. To remove a contributor, open the profile pictures below the list name and use the menu next to that person. Instructions are in the [link/document]. support for collaborative playlists.
A helpful tip for the trip is to ask for a few suggestions per person and then review the order. This avoids a huge list before you understand what you want to hear.
Jam: Share the queue during the session.
Those who start a Jam need Premium. Free accounts can join an in-person session and contribute; Premium is also required to participate remotely.
- On the phone playing the music, open the device controls.
- Choice Start the Jam and then To invite.
- Share the link or show the QR code to the participants.
The host can limit guests' ability to add music by disabling the option to change what's playing. If the host leaves, the session ends. Check the controls in... official guide to Jam.
When hosting a get-together at home, choose the playback device first and decide who will be in charge of the music selection. This reduces interruptions when several people have different songs in mind.
Check your accounts and connection before the meeting.
Each person must use their own account to participate. Monitored accounts of young listeners have restrictions and do not offer Jam or collaborative playlists, according to the documentation for this type of account.
If your trip will include sections without signal, prepare your downloads before you leave. With Premium, you can download playlists and albums; with the free version, downloads are limited to podcasts. Adding a playlist to your library doesn't mean the music is already available offline. See the... offline playback rules.
Don't rely on new online contributions during a period without internet access. Finish your selection before downloading and check the content on the device you'll be using. To switch between music and programs during your trip, see also how... Prepare podcasts for offline listening..

Choose based on when the group will participate.
If suggestions will arrive throughout the week, create the collaborative playlist and set the invitation in advance. If the meeting has already started and you want to decide on the next track together, check the Jam requirements and start the session.
For a trip without a stable internet connection, the priority is to have your selection ready and available on your device before leaving. No combination of invitations can replace this preparation.
